Online Poker FAQ

Online poker has become incredibly popular over the past several years and it looks as if it will continue to do so. However, despite its worldwide popularity there are a lot of questions people have about online poker and would like to know the answers before they start betting their hard earned money online. Fortunately, there are answers to these questions. Just continue to read and you should find the answer to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding online poker and gambling on the Internet.

FAQ #1 What is Online Poker?
First and foremost, individuals are unsure what online poker actually is. Basically, online poker is just like playing poker with your friends or at a casino and the cards are dealt automatically by the computer. This means no dealer mistakes! You must download software from a gambling site to play online poker and most of them have the appearance of a virtual room of gamblers playing poker. Each person’s screen name is denoted on their seat or at the table. So, it is as if you are playing with a group of friends, but on your computer screen. You can also place bets and pay in or receive payments through a variety of payment options available.

Online Poker Cheating

A sad and little know part of online poker is cheating.

Collusion:  Think of 2 people chatting via aim or on the phone telling each other what cards they have.  Then betting or raising to map larger pots.  The player with a good hand  now has a chance to win a much larger pot and the player with the bad hand just folds.  Sure that could lose to a better hand, but if done right they could walk away with alot of your money.

Poker Bots:  Here are some of the bot programs I have found. I do not recomend that you use a bot, infact  I implore you not to, but you should know that they are being used and what they can do.

WinHoldem, Holdem Memory, PokerBot plus, and PokerBot Pro.

Online Poker Betting Structure

The game’s limit is a definition that is dependent on the financial aspect of the game you are involved in. There are two types of online poker games if we look at poker from the money point of view: there are the low-limit games and the high-limit games. The high-limit games are the games where lots of money are being played and bet. Low-limit games are at the other side, they are games with little money involved.

Betting structures are based on limits imposed to each bet that is done in the game. Looking at this aspect we can distinguish four types of games:

1. The fixed-limit games

These games are sometimes named the structured limit games. Wherever there is such a game it means the players will only bet the amount that was set previously. Of course a bet is equal to the small blind and the big blind is double. For more information, when naming such a game, people use terms like $2/$4, $15/$30 games. This way the player that wants to enter the poker room knows from the start what he or she will be betting. Let’s say you are playing in a $2/$4 game. This means you will bet $2 at a time, this being the amount that will be placed as a bet on the flop and pre-flop, with the exception of the big blind of course. On the turn and on the river however the bets will double and every bet’s value will be $4. There is also a limit of bets per round. Every player is only allowed 4 bets per round. That means something like betting once, calling a re-rising, and be raised again.

An Internet Gambling Glossary - Part Two

This is the second installment of my internet gambling glossary.

FOLD: In poker, to opt out of a round. The player loses all moneys bet prior to folding.

HIGH-LOW BET: In roulette, to bet either numbers 1-18 or 19-36. High-Low bets pay even money.

HIT: In blackjack, to request another card from the dealer.

INSURANCE: In blackjack, insurance is a side bet that pays two to one if the dealer has a natural, ( twenty-one on the first two cards dealt ).

LINE BET: In craps, an even-money bet that pays back 98.6%.

MAIDEN RACE: Features horses that have not yet won a race.

An Internet Gambling Glossary - Part One

Despite the fact that internet gambling is now a multi-billion dollar industry, and countless thousands of new bettors world-wide sign on daily to play at online casinos, there are still millions of newcomers to the world of online gambling who do not as yet have a clear understanding of much of the terminology used in online gambling, and betting on sports in general. However, knowledge of these terms is essential to understanding the games and rules of play:

ACTION: Any type of wager.

ALL-IN: In poker, all-in means a player has put all of his chips into the pot, but cannot be forced out of the game by other bettors. A side pot is set up for the bettors with remaining chips, who, if winning can take the pot, and the side pot. If the all-in bettor should win, he can take only the pot, and not the side pot.

A Guide To Poker Tables

Poker tables are of vital importance in a poker game. Whether physical or virtual, no poker game can be played without a poker table. Poker tables come in varied shapes and sizes and can also be customized to suit any poker game specifications. There are no fixed shapes or sizes for a poker table; however, the most common poker tables are mostly rectangular or hexagonal. Rectangular poker tables are usually thirty inches high and forty to forty-two inches wide, though the lengths do vary from seventy-two inches to 110 inches.

Sometimes a dealer/player may have to sit in the middle of a rectangular poker table due to the large size of the table.

Today, the Internet has made it easy to design and acquire a poker table. Some manufactures also offer custom, folding poker tables, card tables, pedestal poker tables, three-in-one poker tables, Texas Hold’em poker tables, blackjack tables, poker tabletops, and craps tables, along with matching chairs, poker cards, and other supplies to suit the needs and tastes of prospective buyers.

4 Gambling Mistakes New Poker Players Make

Poker is a game of chance, but there is still a large amount of skill involved when playing. Many new poker players make gambling mistakes that cost them a lot of money and get them out of tournaments. Some novices play free poker online and never win because of terrible gambling techniques. However, by knowing four common gambling mistakes that are made by new players, you can greatly increase your chances of winning games and tournaments.

1. Going all-in too often or in obvious desperation. In many tournaments with play money, some players go all-in the first hand. It may work for a few times, but after a while, someone will call you. In that case, you better hope that you have actually good cards. All-in can be used to get players to fold, but it should really only be used if you have a solid hand and could possibly double your stack. People should bluff very infrequently with an all-in. Going all-in with a bad hand is what many people call “bad poker.” Sometimes you can get lucky, but the best players bet carefully.
